Initiation into Mathematics, 5-10 July, 2010

This is a programme organized at Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Hyderabad, Hyderabad and is meant for second and final year students of B.Sc. This one week long workshop is an initiative of the MTTS Progarmme. It will follow the methodology of MTTS. Its aim is to intiate students into various aspects such as learning mathematics, thinking mathematics, wrting mathematics on their own and the problem solving skills.
 
The courses will be on Elemenatry Number Theory, Linear Algebra, Real Analysis and Foundations. The lectures will not be traditional ones rather they will be very interactive sessions. The sessions will be very intensive and will demand the students to be active in the classroom. Our emphasis wil be to inculcate/rekindle the innate thinking ability of the students thereby making them independent. The students who are mystified the way mathematics is taught or written in books will find this workshop enlightening. The students who want to understand the whys and hows of mathematics will be greatly benefited by this workshop. Individual attention will be paid to students by the teachers and tutors. We expect that the students will begin to love mathematics at the end of the programme and will be confident to forge ahead on their own.

Note for the selected candidates

Selected candidates are advised to reach the University of Hyderabad on 4th(Sunday) evening itself and latest by 9 AM of 5th(Monday) July. Registration will begin at 9 AM on 5 July 2010. The programme will end at 4 PM on 10 July. They may plan their travel accordingly.
Sleeper class in train /State Transport bus fare (both to and fro) will be reimbursed to the participants. There is no fee for the programme. The accommodation and board (food) will be free and will be arranged at the Participants hostel attached to the Lake View Guest House of University of Hyderabad.

1. Train/Bus tickets of your journey 2. Bonafide certificate from your college 3. Identity card with photo 4. Printed copy of the admission letter that you have received as an email attachment.

Your confirmation mail should include your full name, serial number in the selection list, name of institute, and institute address.
